It’s here you will find my personal writing and my love for the spoken word. I’m a generalist style writer which means I don’t have a specific topic niche. I write about the things that I’m passionate about.
However, in general, I focus mainly on social issues and the human condition. While I occasionally venture into unexpected fields such as female empowerment, entrepreneurship, and other fields, I strive to write high-quality, empathic writing every time.
Besides my writing, you will also find information on who I am, personally, outside the world of content writing.
I update my Medium profile monthly…
“You’re not to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it.”
— Black Activist, Malcolm X —
I gave my father a phone call to tell him what I had just witnessed. That, Derek Chauvin, the man that kept his knee on George Floyd’s Neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, was convicted on 3 different charges of murder. Somehow, someway, the American Justice system actually gave Black America the justice we deserved.
My father had yet to hear about the outcome of the trial. He, like…
As the Sun shined overhead, I took notice of how relaxing the day became. The activity for that day included wine-tasting at a local vineyard and lounging about within the local flora. I was surrounded by green hills with a luscious vibrancy to the color and white Victorian homes that hid tasty wineries. A calm, and much-needed escape, from the busyness of life.
That day, for a brief moment in time, the world slowed down. I took notice of the chirping of birds and how cheerful it sounded. I felt the cool breeze of wind hitting my face. …
“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
Roman Stoic Philosopher, Seneca
Before I get to my point, let’s rewind the clock back one year.
It’s 2020, a pandemic is fucking up our happiness, and a slightly younger Dayon needed extra fulfillment in his life, outside his day job as US Navy enlisted. So, like many people at the time, I took up writing on the Medium platform and decided to see where this would take me.
After writing for a while, I decided to write this article in commemoration of my mother, and the sacrifices women have to…
“It ain’t perfect but I don’t mind,
’Cause on the surface I look so fine,
But really I’m bugging, bugging,
Making something out of nothing”
— “Perfect” by Rapper Mac Miller —
For many creative people, our work is often inspired by pain and trauma. Art often has a way of channeling pain as much as it does creating beauty, an escape pod for our trauma and mental anxieties.
However, in living with so much darkness, it can also blind you from happiness. While humanity loves to indulge in good art, we rarely acknowledge the creative process behind our favorite…
“Being a queer black woman in America,” she told the reporter who noted she took “a breath” before uttering the next words, “someone who has been in relationships with both men and women — I consider myself to be a free-ass motherfucker.”
“Singer Janelle Monae, coming out as queer”
“How would you feel if your kid came out gay?”
I have been asked this question many times over the years, and it never stops annoying me. It has this clickbait-like quality to it like it’s trying to lure me into a trap. …
“I feel like for a long time men felt like they owned sex and now women are saying, ‘Hey, this is for me. I want pleasure. This is how I want it or don’t want it.’ It freaks men the hell out.”
Sexual power fantasies are one of the most incredible aspects of sexuality. It allows you to embrace your imagination and give in to a hypersexualized version of yourself that society often doesn’t allow. …
So if you haven’t heard by now, PS I Love You, the biggest relationship publication on Medium will be shutting down on June 30. They go into more detail on their publication page.
This is really hard to hear. Even before I became a part-time Medium writer, it was one of my favorite publications to read through. The publication provided writers a place to tackle the extremely relatable topic of relationships and love. For myself, it was a great source of getting me through some tough spots in my own journeys through life and love. It also introduced me to…
Let’s be real — living with debt sucks.
It’s hard to do anything when you feel like you’re tied to a sinking ship. However, in today’s financial market, it can definitely feel that way. The stock market is becoming increasingly erratic and giving everyone involved massive anxiety.
“Credit is an ‘I love debt’ score.”
— Dave Ramsey
Trust me. I know. I had to get out of $50,000 dollars worth of debt while trying not to lose my sanity. When you’re stuck in a hole that deep, you realize quickly what you’re made of. …
So, if you have been my writing for the last few months, you may have noticed this at the end of every article…
