Hey, What’s Up, Everyone! Welcome to my Medium page!

It’s here you will find my personal writing and my love for the spoken word. I’m a generalist style writer which means I don’t have a specific topic niche. I write about the things that I’m passionate about.

However, in general, I focus mainly on social issues and the human condition. While I occasionally venture into unexpected fields such as female empowerment, entrepreneurship, and other fields, I strive to write high-quality, empathic writing every time.

Besides my writing, you will also find information on who I am, personally, outside the world of content writing.

I update my Medium profile monthly…

How Invincible is a powerful reminder of human determination

“But what if the greatest me isn’t enough?”

— Mark Grayson, Main character of Invincible —

Humanity is a difficult thing. We live a life filled with heavy hardship and difficult challenges. From the time we are born, we tackle life, one day at a time. In our ever-growing pursuit of progress, we’re constantly getting knocked down and reminded how hard life can be. How seemingly insignificant we all feel in the grand scheme of our existence.

When the pandemic struck and destroyed life as we knew it, we got a hard lesson on how easily we can fall. Regardless…

Friendships with the opposite gender can be more than just potential sex partners

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.”

— American Philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson —

“Why do you have so many female friends?”

Every time, I get asked this, I wonder that myself.

It’s a question that invokes as much jealousy from men and women as it does curiosity. On the surface, it seems like I’m keeping a constant backup line of women in the event, I need a hassle-free sex partner. Because why else would a man keep so many women in his life? …

Making peace with your trauma means making peace with yourself

“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”

— German Philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche —

Living With Your Past Hurt

When you reach a point where happiness is the priority, what do you do with your past emotional trauma? My life has reached a high point where I’m living peacefully, and for the most part, I’m pretty comfortable. However, comfort and conflict are in direct opposition to one another. …

Our relationship with money is killing us softly

“Money and success don’t change people; they merely amplify what is already there.”

— American Actor/Will Smith —

Most of my life, I have been broke.

For so many of us, money is an elusive dream. It was always there, seemingly right in front of us at all times. No matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to evade our desire for more money.

Those new clothes that you saw teasing you in the window of your favorite store. The never-ending parade of bills for things we barely care for. The unintentional need to spend more just to make…

When you work for yourself, working for someone else will never be the same

As a member of the US Navy, you will find out real quick how much you despise taking orders. Don’t get me wrong — I have no problem obeying my superiors.

The problem is that I’m always obeying my superiors.

Eventually, you crave freedom and the privilege to become your own boss. You yearn for the time and opportunity to go your own way. The ability to make your own money, on your own terms. To set your own hours and choose how your life will play out. …

When being a “good man” goes bad

“Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly, and without reservation, that he is in error. “

— Seventh President Of The United States, Andrew Jackson

One of my worst regrets in life is failing to understand the struggles of women, at a younger age. As someone that routinely struggles with survivor’s guilt, in many ways, I often carry unneeded guilt. Guilt constantly reminds me that I could have done things better at various points in my life.

As a young, black man growing up…

Learning to live in the moment is a superpower

“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

— Roman Philosopher, Marcus Aurelius —

Finding Inner Peace During Hard Times

During my US Naval deployment in 2017, I would encounter the heaviest mental load I have ever lived through. A difficult time where I was cut off from society and would be forced to decide how strong I really am.

In the months leading up to this deployment, I suffered a number of personal tragedies.

The grief of dealing with the tragic deaths of two childhood cousins due to gun violence would hang over me like a…

The pandemic was one of the best things to ever happen to me

“Petty Officer Cotton, I have a question for you: What do you want?”

My therapist asked me this question one year ago — right before the start of the pandemic. At that time, I was visiting him on a weekly basis. I was in a rough place during that time in my life. I was depressed, battling night terrors, and figuring out my place in life.

Naturally, this became a good reason to go to therapy.

“Well I want to do something that makes me happy. (Obviously). I’m not sure what that is yet. Usually, work makes me happy.”

“Does…

Black women don’t get enough credit for saving their black men

“It takes a village to raise a child”

— African Proverb —

More Than Her Strength

I owe my mother more than I can ever repay her. Without her, I wouldn’t know the definition of life.

That might sound a bit hyperbolic, but it’s not far from the truth.

Growing up in deep south Texas under her wing, she always reminded me how precious life truly is. As a single mother, she could have given up and chosen her own individuality over her son’s needs. Prior to my birth, she had a miscarriage. When I came along, it was with a man she wasn’t…
