COVID-19 Is Not An Excuse To Harass The Asian Community

The fear instilled by COVID-19 is becoming a new excuse for Asian prejudice and that’s unacceptable

At the bottom of my apartment, I find solace in one of my favorite parts of the city. It’s a place of safe harbor and mental respite from the complexities of life. I frequently visit there on a weekly basis and I always walk away feeling happier, lighter even, than how I started.

That place of happiness and safety — a locally-owned Indian restaurant within my community.

However, it’s not the food that keeps me coming. Okay I’m half-joking. The food is a big part of it. It’ freaking delicious and my soul comes alive with each intense burst of favor.

But seriously what I love about this restaurant is the people. True, they have great food, but…they have an even bigger heart.

Months ago before the COVID-19 pandemic, I got sick. My body fell ill to a winter cold (back when a cold was just a cold, and not a panic-inducing buzzword.) and I wasn’t in good shape. I had the usual seasonal symptoms: coughing, runny nose, lost my voice, etc. I even lost my high usual energy mood swings and traded it for moving at the pace of dirt.
