I know for myself, and many others, a common cause of pronoun misuse is in the way I was raised. If you're raised in the South, it's quite common in many households to be punished for not saying "Sir" or "Ma'am" thus unintentionally reinforcing gender pronouns.

Still, I correct myself once I realize the mistake.
